Bridge repair work underway
A new pack bridge across the Salmon River will be installed this summer, according to officials with the Salmon-Challis Forest.
The Stoddard pack bridge project began April 1 and is expected to run through July 22. The construction zone begins at the Stoddard trailhead, about 38 miles from North Fork, and ends a half-mile downriver of the Stoddard bridge site. Work will occur on both sides of the river.
Traffic delays on Salmon River Road are expected. Flaggers will be on site. Hiking trails in the area will also be temporarily closed during construction.
The new bridge will provide access into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Inland Crane of Boise was hired to install the bridge.
Rock cleanup planned
Some traffic delays on U.S. Highway 93 north of Salmon are likely during April as loose rocks are removed from the slopes along the roadway.
The Idaho Transportation Department has hired workers to remove the rocks between Fourth of July Creek and Wagon Hammer Springs. Work is expected to occur weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closures of up to 20 minutes are planned.
More netting will be installed as part of the project, and damaged netting will be repaired.
