Frank and Donna Mae (Crawford) Doffing celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on Sept. 14.
They attended school in Challis and met at a dance in Custer County in the 1940s and have been inseparable since, their daughter says.
The Doffings were joined by their daughters Cherri and Julie, granddaughter Dr. Kristin Patton and Patton’s husband and children at the anniversary celebration.
Free firewood offered in Challis
People may apply to receive free firewood through the Challis Lions Club program.
Applications are available at the Custer County Courthouse.
Proof of income is required to qualify for the program. The gross monthly income limits are $2,113 for a one-person household; $2,763 for a two-person household; $3,414 for a three-person household; and $4,064 for a four-person household. Additional family members beyond four increases the monthly limit by $590 per person.
Wood will be distributed this year from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2.

Mahoney House volunteer honored
Eileen Twombly received a governor’s brightest star award during the Sept. 28 Idaho Capital for a Day event in Carmen.
Twombly volunteers 30 hours a week at the Mahoney House, which has a mission to “stop, prevent and heal the effects of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence in Lemhi and Custer counties.”
Twombly also teaches sign language to youths and volunteers at Rags and Wags in Salmon.
Youth wins at Eastern Idaho State Fair
Challis youth Zoey Perrine won her division of the 4-H demonstration contest at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
She competed on Sept. 4 in Blackfoot. She qualified for the state fair after winning the 4-H demonstration contest at the Custer County Fair.
School receives donation
The family of Sid and Angela Sullivan donated to Stanley Elementary School.
